About a year ago, NOCHS standardized all crash carts and defibrillators throughout the hospital. This standardization included the purchase of new LifePak 20 defibrillators to replace the LifePak 12’s. We kept the LifePak 12’s for education purposes and to be used as AED’s in non-clinical areas that are difficult to get a crash cart to quickly. An example is the 2nd floor hallway near HR and the 3rd floor. Today, LifePak 12’s were placed in the 2nd floor nurse’s lounge across from accounts payable and on the 3rd floor in the copy room. They have been programmed into AED mode, which means that they work just like the AED – but they look different. An “AED” sign has been placed on the door to these areas and step by step instructions are included on the front of the machines. A Ziploc bag is attached to each and contains gloves, scissors, and 2 sets of adult combo pads. These will be checked monthly as part of the crash cart rotation. Feel free to stop by and take a look.
As previously noted, the AED that was previously used in Cardiac Rehab was recently moved into a cabinet in the main lobby.
The placement of these devices throughout the building in addition to the full crash carts in clinical areas helps ensure that we can meet national guidelines for responses to emergencies.
